These sketches are from an old sketchbook that I had in 2008. At the time I was studying abroad for a semester in Paris at Les Gobelins. One thing that my old teacher Corny Cole told me that really stuck was that your art work isn't necessarily better now than what you did a while ago. I can't help but feel that that's the case here.

Here is the painting that I did for the art auction that I helped organize in which the proceeds went to benefit victims of human trafficking. Sadly, the victims of these crimes are very often children. This painting is in honor of them. Its about how awesome they are and how innocent they are. And about how they should be dreaming, laughing and being happy. I hope that with the money we raised from the auction, we can help some of these kids go back to being kids again.
The proceeds of the auction went to ZOE and She Dances who both do amazing work with freeing people from various forms of modern day slavery.

Sunha and I designed, story boarded and animated this piece for Click to Play Media and The University of California San Fransisco. We kept the house stocked with a steady supply of Costco croissants and instant coffee in order to complete the project. I now know more than I ever thought I would about alternate methods of birth control.

Bob Dylan cover

Usually when I do a Dylan cover its with the old six string like "when the rooster crowin at the break of dawn, look out your window and I'll be gone...." (note: I can't actually play that.) But this time was much different. Bob Dylan is one of my favorite musicians so I was stoked when my friends at Beatdom asked me to do a cover for the music-themed issue. They wanted Bob on the cover. After messing around with a few ideas I decided to go with a Gulliver's Travel theme. It made sense to me on some strange level, kind of like some of Dylan's lyrics.
Do a Wallace impersonation from Wallace and Gromit. Now do a Dylan impression... Are they different? If the answer is yes, then pat yourself on the back. You are a regular Darrell Hammond.

Sunha Yoon and I worked on this spec commercial earlier this year. The job was made for/ with Fortune Cookie made up of show creator Ben Wolfinsohn and esteemed commercial director Pierluca de Carlo. The direction for the look and was inspired by the film A Bout de Souffle. Sunha did backgrounds, fx and compositing while I co-wrote, designed, fx animated, storyboarded, layed out, and animated it. The project was done using pencil and paper, photoshop and after effects. Production took about a month.

heeb magazine

My buddy Simsha Rice flew over to London to cover the Amir Khan v Dimitry Salita boxing match for Heeb Magazine. The fight was between the first big Jewish boxer in a while versus the first big Muslim boxer in a while. As you can imagine, there was more to it than just two guys punching each other in the face really hard. Shimsha asked me to do some illustrations for the article which includes more than its fair share debauchery.

My friend Eduardo Jones, art director at Beatdom Magazine had me do the cover for issue six, the traveling issue. So this is what I came up with... Burroughs is driving, Ginsberg is riding shotty, Bukowski is in back, Kerouac is hitching and Hunter Thompson is up top.

For the next mashup drawing, I decided that it'd be fun to see it animated. Its like Noah's Ark meets the civil war, meets the A team. I once again joined forces with composer, sound designer Kyle Blanton Ross http://www.kyleblantonross.com. Its kind of an excercise, kind of an experiment, kind of fun to see these different elements smashed together into one flu nighmare inducing animation.

This summer I had the pleasure of designing and animating this spot while working for Yozux studios (http://www.yozux.com/) It kind of felt like making a 48 hr film at Calarts, except for work. A couple of scenes were taken out; one with a french WWI soldier and a nurse, as well as one with 2 astronauts. But all in all it ended up being pretty epic... like The Highlander...but with loob... If your under 9 yrs old, you probably shouldnt watch this.

These drawings were done fairly quickly. The coloring, however took quite a bit more time. In doing the coloring, the stories of what is happening in the drawings came out alot more. This was very interesting beause the initial drawings are stream of conciousness. The coloring and refining of them bring out these common themes and ideas, its like a turbo psycho-analysis...

Out of work due to a drought, Hastings Von Brindlethorpe created the worlds first "unbailer" which sent all of the hay that he had bailed back throughout the field, allowing him to continue working. One day he slipped on a banana peel and fell into the machine, sending him into the murky waters of the great unknown.

I was asked by my sister in law jen to draw up the cover for the next issue of Parenting in the OC, where she is currently the editor. I happily agreed, then thought about what I would draw for a few seconds. And then I went back to eating my sandwich which consisted of swiss cheese and turkey breast. I had also put mayo and mustard on it; a combo which I was opposed to for several years, but then regained a fondness for the both of them together... That information neither here nor there.

The Deadline

The Deadline is my second year film from Calarts. It is heavily inspired by the writings of Latin American surrealist writers Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortazar. I was exposed to their works while I was studying Latin American Literature at the Ohio State University before attending Calarts. As usual the story went through many phases before reaching the one that was made, its was far trippier before and maybe a little less comprehensible, believe it or not. The final outcome ended up being a competition of sorts between the two writers as to who can finish their books.
